Bio taken from Find-A-Grave: "Dr. Bernard Louis Cohen, 83, of Prospect Street, Malone, N.Y. and E. Harmon Avenue, Las Vegas, Nev., died Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at Nathan Adelson Hospice, Las Vegas, Nev.
He was born Oct. 31, 1918, in Gouverneur, N.Y., the son of Hyman and Mildred Edison Cohen. They predeceased him.
He married Dr. Shirlee Krakauer Nov. 10, 1946, at the Essex House in New York City. She survives.
Besides his wife of 55 years, he is survived by one brother, Edward Cohen of Malone, N.Y.; one sister, Sue Miller Bearman of Sun City, Ariz.; five nieces and three nephews.
He and his family moved to Malone, N.Y., in 1918. He attended local schools and graduated from Franklin Academy in 1937. He went on to attend Michigan State University in a pre-dental program. He later attended Western Reserve University in the dental program and graduated with his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1943.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army with the 65th Engineer Corps. in the European Theater. He was honorably discharged following World War II. He later served with the U.S. Army Reserve and retired from there with the rank of major.
Dr. Cohen practiced dentistry in Malone, N.Y., for 39 years. He retired in 1984.
He was a member of Temple Beth El in Malone, N.Y., former Eagle Scout, served as a scout master for the local Boy Scouts Troop, member of the American Legion and past commander of that organization, Life Member of the Malone Lodge of Elks Lodge 1303, member of the Kiwanis Club, past member of the Malone School Board of Education and served as its president for 12 years, member and past president of the 65th Engineer Corps., past member of the Malone Golf and Country Club, he was appointed by then New York State Governor Coumo to the Board of Visitors at Ogdensburg Psychiatric Hospital, past member of Studley Hill Hunting Lodge and Huckleberry Lodge Hunting Club.
He and his wife were contributors to many local charities and needy causes. Ben and his wife, Shirlee, started Project Warmth, a charity that provides warm clothing to needy children in local schools. This was started in 1997 and is still an on going project administered by the Malone Lodge of Elks and local school nurses."
