Muni, Paul, 1895-1967

Paul Muni was a stage and film actor best known for his role as Antonio "Tony" Camonte in the Howard Hughes-produced film Scarface (1932). Born as Frederich Meshilem Meier Weisenfreund on September 22, 1895, Muni grew up in Chicago, Illinois and first achieved acting success in the Yiddish theater in New York, New York. He would later act in films between 1929 and 1962, including Scarface. Muni also won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his starring role in The Story of Louis Pasteur (1936). He died on August 25, 1967 in Montecito, California.
