"James Oran “Jimmy” Porter, Esq. was born on August 29, 1941 in Washington, D.C. Jimmy passed away on January 27, 2016. In 1969, he founded The Porter Law Firm in Washington D.C. with a mission to act as a voice for the voiceless and to fight for those who are unable to fight for themselves. Several years later, Jimmy opened The Porter Law Firm in Las Vegas and was the second African- American attorney in the state of Nevada. Jimmy was a Co-Founder and member of the Las Vegas Chapter of the Urban Chamber of Commerce and the National Bar Association and in 2012, the National Bar Association inducted him into its Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Jimmy is survived by his Mother, Alma Sherman, daughter: Laronda Tinsley-Taylor (Paul), sons James Oran Porter II and Marwan E. Porter, Esquire (Shiran); grandson: Dahveed Porter; brothers: Clifton Porter and Ronald Porter; aunt: Delores Talbert, uncle: Edward Talbert (Jane); several nephews and nieces; and a host of other family members and friends."
