Louise Dresser was a silent film actor known for her roles in Hollywood films between 1922 and 1937. Dresser was born as Louise Josephine Kerlin on October 05, 1878 in Evansville, Indiana. She first performed vaudeville with the stage name "Louise Dresser," borrowing the name of her father's acquaintance, the songwriter Paul Dresser. Dresser debuted as a film actor in The Glory of Clementina (1922), and first starred in The City that Never Sleeps (1924). She also performed in the Marshall Neilan film Everybody's Acting (1926), a film later acquired by Howard Hughes. Dresser was nominated for her performance in 1929 during the first Academy Awards for her performance in A Ship Comes In (1928).

Dresser died on April 24, 1965 in Woodland Hills, California.
