American screenwriter and Academy Award winner Howard Estabrook was born on July 11, 1884 in Detroit, Michigan to Harriet Frances Snow and John Edward Bolles. Estabrook began working in Hollywood, California in 1924, and he went on to win an Academy Award for the film Cimarron (1931). Additionally, he worked on the screenplay for Howard Hughes' Hell's Angels (1930). He was also the vice president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as well as the Screen Writers Guild. Estabrook married Alice Margaret Baker in Manhattan, New York on December 22, 1907. They remained married until her death in 1975. Estabrook died on July 16, 1978 in Los Angeles, California.
