Hopcroft, Newton, 1886-1962

Description

American film photographer Newton John Hopcroft was born in Portage La Prarie, Manitoba, Canada on September 10, 1886. His family immigrated to the United States in 1890, and he served in the United States military from 1917 to 1919. Hopcroft worked for Howard Hughes' The Caddo Company, Inc. in the early 1930s, where he photographed scenes from Hughes' films The Age for Love (1931) and The Front Page (1931). He married Anna Laura Whitney on September 1, 1909 in Los Angeles, California. The couple had two daughters, Lila Laura Stevenson and Pauline Estelle Hopcroft. Hopcroft remarried Clementine Kline on June 23, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan. He died in Los Angeles on March 19, 1962.
