Heymann, Werner Richard, 1896-1961

Werner Richard Heymann was a composer known for his theatrical and film works. Born on February 14, 1896 in Königsberg, Germany, Heymann began playing instruments at the age of three, writing compositions at the age of eight, and participating in an orchestra at the age of twelve. Heymann later joiend Max Reinhardt's literary cabaret as a pianist, achieving popularity in Germany and France through the compositions created during this time. In the early 1930s, Heymann moved to Hollywood and created compositions for films between the 1930s and 1950s. These films include The Shop Around the Corner (1940), To Be or Not to Be (1942), and the Howard Hughes-produced The Sin of Harold Diddlebock (1947). Heymann moved back to Germany in 1951 and continued to create compositions for films until his death on May 30, 1961 in Munich, Germany.
