Rose, Bob (Robert T.), 1901-1993

Description

American film stuntman, Bob Rose was born on February 4, 1901 to Bella Sura Payne and Silas Rose in Texa Scoland. Soon after, the Rose family relocated to the United States. Rose was working as a jockey in Tijuana, Mexico when Francis Ford and Eddie Polo discovered him. in 1917 he moved to Hollywood, California and began working for Thomas Ince in western films. Rose performed a variety of stunts including crashes, plane maneuvers, falls, wing walking, and parachuting. He worked dilligently to advance the profession, including helping found the Pilots Union and Stuntmen's Association, as well as implementing safeguards and safety equipment for his colleagues. Howard Hughes utiized Rose's talents in his film The Conqueror (1956) starring John Wayne. Rose worked in the film industry until 1975, when he retired to his ranch in Montrose, Colorado. He died on March 8, 1993.
