Mexican-American actor, Maxwell Sergius Wagner was most known for starring in most of Preston Sturges' films. Wagner was one of five children born to William Wallace Wagner and Edith Gilfillan in Torreon, Mexico on November 28, 1901. After his father died in the Mexican Revolution, the Wagner family moved to Salinas, California. He followed three of his brothers to Hollywood, California to work in the film industry.
Wagner acted in numerous Spanish versions of American films. He also worked as a spanish language coach for actors such as Lupe Velez. By 1940, Wagner was working in Sturges' stable of actors for his films, and starred in six of his films.
Wagner served in the military from October 27, 1942 to March 3, 1944. He married twice, and his second marriage, to Elizabeth Ruth Clark, occurred on November 23, 1951 in Los Angeles. Wagner died of a heart attack on November 16 1975 of a heart attack.
