Richard Loo was a third-generation Chinese American actor, appearing in approximately 150 films and television series between the 1930s and 1970s. Born on Maui, Hawaii in October 01, 1903, he moved to California after a failed business venture to become an actor. His initial appearances were of uncredited Chinese characters, but throughout most of his career, Loo was often typecasted as Japanese antagonists, particularly during World War II. He also played other Asian characters, including the captain of Wang Khan's guard in the Howard Hughes-produced film The Conqueror (1956), Thai industralist Hai Fat in The Man With the Golden Gun (1974), and as various characters in the television series Kung Fu (1972).

Loo died on November 20, 1983 in Los Angeles, California and was survived by his wife, Hope Loo, and his two daughters, Beverly Jane Loo and Angela Levy.
