Summerville, Slim, 1892-1946

Description

American comedic actor, Slim Summerville was born on July 10, 1892 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Clara Helmer and Thomas Elliott Somerville, as George Joseph Somerville, or Summerville. He had one older brother, Thomas Elliott Somerville, and their mother died on August 27, 1898. Mack Sennett gave Summerville his break as Keystone Kop in Hoffmeyer's Legacy (1912). Summerville primarily played as a comedic actor in silent films throught the 1910s and 1920s, he had a few more dramatic roles, such as in All Quiet on the Western Front (1930) and Jesse James (1939). Addtitionally, he played the role of Irving Pincus in Howard Hughes' The Front Page (1931).

Summerville was inducted into the New Mexico Entertainment Hall of Fame in 2012, and has a star on the Hollywood, California Walk of Fame. He married three times. Once to Agnes Marie Breen, then to Gertrude Martha Roell, and finally to Eleanor Lucille Brown. He died on January 5, 1946 in Laguna Beach, California.
