Film director and actor Albert Edward Sutherland was born in London, England on January 5, 1895. Sutherland's aunt was the actor Charlotte Greenwood, his father was a theatre manager, and his mother was a vaudeville performer. He starred in 39 films and directed over 50 films, including Howard Hughes' Sky Devils (1932).
Sutherland married five times and died on December 31, 1973 in Palm Springs, California.
