A memorial service for Eva Sutherland (S.B.'18), a former staff member and a longtime friend of the University [of Chicago], will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 7, in Bond Chapel, following an 8:30 a.m. reception in Swift Commons. Sutherland died Jan. 25 in Kalamazoo, Mich. She was 96.
In 1924, Sutherland joined the staff of the Institute of Meat Packing, which was affiliated with the School of Commerce & Administration (now the Graduate School of Business). Over the next 39 years, she served at various times (and often simultaneously) as assistant, adviser and "keeper of the keys of the School of Business" for at least five deans of the Business School, including former Secretary of State George Shultz. After her retirement in 1963, she was a volunteer chairman of Deferred Giving to the University.
She is survived by a nephew.
