Description

John Fildes, MD, FACS, FCCM, FPCS (Hon) is the Professor and Inaugural Chair of the Department of Surgery at the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. In addition, he was the Interim Associate Dean for External Affairs, serving from September 2019 through April 2020.

John Fildes was accepted at University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Medicine and Surgery in Manila, Philippines (1978-1982) and graduated with the highest honors in his class. Returning to the U.S., he completed his residency in General Surgery at the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital in the South Bronx and a fellowship in Trauma, Burns, and Surgical Critical Care in Cook County.

In 1995, Fildes was hired to come to Las Vegas by Dr. Dale Harrison. Fildes instituted policies and procedures that proved to be effective on 1 October 2017 when 60 people attending the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival were murdered and hundreds injured by more than one thousand rounds of ammunition fired from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip. All those alive upon arrival to University Medical Center (UMC) survived. Dr. Fildes and his team used all their skills, strategies, and medical acumen to ensure those results.
