Description

Verlia Davis Hoggard was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, and graduated from A.M.&N. College (now the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff) in 1957. She moved to Las Vegas in 1962 and served as Director of Welfare for 32 years. An active community leader, she was involved with the Top Ladies of Distinction, Links, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, the Women's Democratic Club, the Las Vegas Chapter of the NAACP, and the Clark County Library Board. She was also a dedicated member of First African Methodist Episcopal Church, where she served on the Steward Board and Hospitality Committee. In addition, she wrote for the Arkansas State Press and worked for the Economic Opportunity Board (EOB).
