Arthur “Art” Sloan (1930-2019) was a philanthropist and a successful entrepreneur who ran multiple businesses that specialized in lighting and air conditioning. During his time in Las Vegas, Nevada, Sloan collected materials from casinos such as the Flamingo, El Rancho, and Hotel Last Frontier. These materials included ash trays, silverware, postcards, photographs, dice, playing cards, and casino memorabilia.
Art Sloan was born in 1930 in Los Angeles, California to Ida and Alvin Sloan. He attended Fairfax High School and matriculated at the University of California, Los Angeles. After living in Beverly Hills and West Los Angeles, California for many years, Sloan decided to move to Las Vegas, Nevada in order to expand his high-end lighting business. There he met Naomi Fine, and the two of them married and lived together in Las Vegas and in Sun Valley, Idaho. Opening and selling a number of his businesses, Sloan had great success in heating and air conditioning, energy, and lighting industries. Together with his wife, he operated a high-end lighting showroom called Artlights for many years in Las Vegas and supported numerous organizations and causes such as the Wood River Jewish Community in Sun Valley and the Kabbalah Centre in Los Angeles. Sloan passed away on June 15, 2019 in Las Vegas.
