Edythe Sally Harviel was a founding member of the Desert Newcomers Club in Henderson, Nevada. She was born on Novmeber 22, 1928 in Lebanon, Indiana while her mother attended a funeral there, but her family actually resided in New York City, New York. Their family traveled around the United States due to Haviel's parents working in entertainment, with her mother, Nora Harvey, as a ballet dancer part of a troupe and her father, Clate Harvey, as a vaudeville performer. When Harviel was three years old, her family resided in La Porte, Indiana, where she graduated from high school. After high school, Harviel worked for the Indiana State Employment Service for approximately twenty years, married her first husband, and had two children, Michael and Christopher. After her first husband died, she married her second husband, and continued moving around the United States before finally arriving in Henderson, Nevada in 1990. Also in 1990, Harviel co-founded the Desert Newcomers Club in Henderson as a non-profit social organization for women living in Henderson and Boulder City, Nevada.
