Description

David R. Parks was the first openly gay member of the Nevada legislature, and a long time member of the Governor’s Statewide AIDS Advisory Task Force. Parks was born on December 22, 1943 in Boston, Massachusettes. His parents immigrated from Canada between the 1920s and 1930s. He attended the University of New Hampshire and later the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Parks was drafted into the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, where he was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1967. In Las Vegas, he served on the Nevada State Assembly between 1998 and 2006, the Nevada State Senate on 2008, the Clark County Commission on 2010, and was re-elected to the Nevada State Senate on 2012 and 2016.
