Marilyn Armstrong graduated high school and beautician school at the same time having attended beauty school from 2:00 until 9:00 or 10:00 in the evening. Her ambitious strides paid off with hair styling positions on the Strip at Caesars Palace, Miss Elizabeth's, and Under Your Hat prior to owning her own shop at Flamingo and Maryland Parkway. Her clientele included entertainers, high profile Las Vegas business owners, and locals from the Westside. Armstrong supported her husband's decision to start Ray and Ross Bus Company, the largest transportation firm in the state in the 1950s and 1960s. Armstrong grew up on the Westside when children were safe to play throughout the community, enter local beauty contests, and work on the flourishing Jackson Av business corridor. Her mother's beauty shop was on Jackson and her family knew all the other business owners in the area. She has high hopes for the future of the Historic Westside.
