Benítez, Maria M., 1964-

Description

Maria Benítez was born in El Salvador and grew up in an agricultural family that had to leave their farm and home due to persecution during the war. Despite the difficulty Maria graduated as a nurse at 23-years-old and married two years later. After becoming pregnant and having her daughter Maria decided to come to the U.S. to give her daughter a better life away from the violence. After being unable to reunite with her first husband Maria lived in Virginia and was able to secure Temporary Protected Status (TPS). She eventually moved to Las Vegas and met her second husband and they have two children.

A problem with her TPS number ended up having Maria deported and she spent 8 months in El Salvador trying to sort out the issue with her TPS. Eventually all was put back in order and Maria was able to reunite with her family.
