Edith Corliss Giles was born in July of 1895 in Colorado. From a young age Giles was active in mining, and she made a land claim on a mining property in the Mayflower District, Nevada at the age of twelve or thirteen. She married John Lucas Cadogan in approximately 1919, and they had one daughter Jane Alice Cadogan. John Lucas Cadogan died in 1941, and she became manager of Scotty's Castle. Edith Cadogan went on to marry J. Clyde Barcus on August 29, 1946 in Reno, Nevada. The couple remained in Goldfield operating the "Odd Shop," a jewelry, glass, and souvenir shop, until they moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1952. The two remained in Las Vegas until their respective deaths, J. Clyde Barcus in 1966, and Edith Giles Barcus in 1984.
