Brown, Hugh Henry, 1872-

Hugh H. Brown Jr. was born in Stuebenville, Ohio on May 4, 1872. Brown attended Wooster University from 1890 to 1892 and Stanford University from 1893 to 1896, where he earned a law degree. In 1897, Brown began working for the San Francisco law firm Reddy, Campbell, and Metson. In 1902, Brown moved to Tonopah, Nevada where he opened the Nevada branch of Campbell, Metson, and Brown. The firm had offices in Tonopah, Rhyolite, and Goldfield, Nevada, all of which experienced significant booms due to mining in the early twentieth century. In 1904, Brown married Marjorie Moore of San Fransisco. In 1910, the firm dissolved and Brown took over. He worked with clients such as the Tonopah Mining Company, the Tonopah and Goldfield Railroad Company, Desert Power and Mills Company, and the Tonopah Belmont Development Company In 1911, the Nevada Bar Association was founded and Brown became president holding the position until 1912. Brown was also a member of the Nevada State Banking Board.
