Fred Butler Cox Jr. was a businessman who supported the development of engineering, science ducation, and entreprenuership in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was born June 3, 1934 to Ann and Fred Cox Sr. and grew up in Temple, Texas. Cox married Harriet Frost, graduated from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas in 1959, and served in the United States Air Force Rserve at Edwards Air Force Base in California. He later worked for Beckman Instruments and founded four technology companies in Orange County, California. Cox retired and spent time between Flathead Lake, Montana and Henderson, Nevada. He created scholarships for engineering students in University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) and served in egineering advisory boards, the UNLV Foundation Board, and the Palladium Society. Cox was the chairman of the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation, and Fred and Harriet Cox are two of the founders of the Smith Center for the Performing Arts in Las Vegas. Cox died August 21, 2014.
