Shapiro, S. R. (Solomon R.), 1911-1990

Description

Solomon Reuben Shapiro was an author, rare book collector, and president of the now defunct company, Books For Libraries. Shapiro was born on August 30th, 1911 in New York City, New York. After receiving an education at New York and Columbia University, Shapiro moved to London, England and started his company, Books For Libraries. In 1971, his book store in New York City was robbed of 240 rare books and manuscripts and led to an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Shapiro received twenty-six of the stolen items back. Solomon Reuben Shapiro passed away on October 30, 1990 in New York City, New York.
