Sarah Katheryn "Kay" Royer was born in Decatur, Illinois on March 4, 1909. She attended Millikin University, the University of Wisconsin, and American University in Washington D.C., where she prepared for her time in the Red Cross. Before joining the Red Cross, Royer was an elementary school teacher in Illinois. She also worked as a machine operator and personnel worker in a war plant during World War II. After joining the Red Cross initially for a two-year contract, Royer remained with the Red Cross for over thirty years, in both wartime and peace. She served as the executive director of the Clark County Chapter of the American Red Cross in Southern Nevada after moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1964. Royer was active in many non-profit agencies and philanthropic endeavors, and was a member of the Altrusa International Club, chaplain of her Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.) chapter, and a member of the Council of Social Agencies.
Royer passed away on October 31, 1991.
