Marshall, Jayn Saltzman

Description

Jayn Marshall (1929-2010) was an artist and a longtime member of the Las Vegas, Nevada Jewish community. Born Jayn Saltzman May 6, 1929 in Cleveland, Ohio, she moved to Las Vegas in 1945 with her parents, Sara and Abe Saltzman. Jayn Saltzman attended Las Vegas High School and Woodbury Business College (now Woodbury University) in Burbank, California. In 1953 she met Art Marshall in Cleveland and they married later that year. The couple moved to Las Vegas in 1959 and Art Marshall and his brother-in-law, Herb Rousso, took over Abe and Sara Saltzman's store, Sara's of Las Vegas. The partners renamed it Marshall-Rousso and grew it into Marshall Retail Group, a retail development company specializing in casino and airport marketplaces. Jayn Marshall collaborated with her husband to design the interiors of Marshall-Rousso's retail locations and to build the family business.

Marshall was very involved in the Jewish community of Southern Nevada, including the Jewish Federation of Las Vegas, the Anti-Defamation League, and the American Israel Public Affairs Committee. She was a life member of Hadassah and an original member of the local chapter of the distinguished Lion of Judah. The Marshalls were recognized for their contributions to the community with the Jewish Federation's Hank Greenspun Founder's Award in 2006 and the Anti-Defamation League's Americanism Award in October 2010.
