Roger William Anderson was born on March 12, 1930, in Sparta, Wisconsin. Roger married Rebecca F. on December 15, 1956, and they had three children: William Eric Anderson, Lee Christian Anderson, and Joseph Leif Anderson.
Anderson is affiliated with the Nevada Test Site as a Captain/Major United States Air Force assigned to the 1129th Special Activities Squadron as a pilot and command post controller.
Anderson’s occupation history is as follows: retired United States Air Force (1950 to 1972) as a Lieutenant Colonel; First National Bank Trust Officer (1972 to 1977); Associate Director of the United Way of Southern Nevada (1978-1995).
Anderson’s education includes: graduating from Cashton High School (1948); 2.5 years at the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse; 20 months as a student and instructor for Electronic Fundamentals-Radar; 13 months pilot training for a B-20 to KC-97 transitional 2 months of Squadron Officer schooling; night courses at Mississippi Southern and Trenton State College for Command and Staff courses.
Anderson enlisted in the military service in 1950. His basic training was at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. His electronics education was obtained from Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi. His pilot training was at the Bartow Air Base in Bartow, Florida, and at Vance Air Force Base in Enid, Oklahoma. His B-29 training was at Randolph Air Force Base in Randolph, Texas; C-97 training was in West Palm Beach, Florida; KC-97 training at Nuncer Air Force Base in Georgia and McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey. He was enlisted at Area 51 in the 1129th Special Activities Squadron. He was part of the Thirteenth Air Force (13-AF) HQ at Clark Air Force Base in Mabalacat, Philippines, and at the Tan Son Nhut Air Base in Saigon, Vietnam.
Anderson worked at numerous jobs throughout his life: construction jobs; worked as a farmer; was employed with the Milwaukee Railroad for two summers; worked at the American CanCoin in Milwaukee for one summer; worked as an ambulance driver in Los Alamos, New Mexico for a summer; worked for the United States postal service during the holiday season; salesman for Lindal Cedar Homes for six months.
