Standing Rock Sioux Tribe of North & South Dakota

The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe is a Native American nation with a reservation located in North Dakota and South Dakota. Members of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe are Ihanktonwana (Upper Yanktonai) and Hunkpatina (Lower Yanktonai), and also the  Dakota, Hunkpapa, and Sihasapa Lakota. The Standing Rock Sioux Reservation is a much smaller portion of the Great Sioux Reservation established in 1868. The federal government removed the Black Hills from the reservation in 1877, and further reduced land holdings by dividing the Great Sioux Reservation into six distinct reservations, including the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation. As of 2002 the nation has over 8,500 enrolled members living both on and off the reservation. The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe own and operate the Grand River Casino and Resort, the Prairie Knights Casino and Resort, Sitting Bull College, and a number of other economic enterprises.
