Textor, Ronald D.

Ronald D. Textor was born in Kirksville, Missouri, but moved shortly after his birth to Flint, Michigan. He started his own band, earned a degree in music education, and was in the North American Air Defense Command Band for three years. He then toured with the Glenn Miller Band under the direction of Buddy DeFranco. Textor earned a master's in music and briefly taught in several colleges in the late 1970s. He moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1981 and played with the Norm Geller orchestra at the Sands.

Thomas, JoNell

JoNell Thomas was born February 11, 1966 and grew up in Murray, Utah in a large family. She attended college at Utah State and the law school at University of Utah. She moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1992 and held multiple careers from being a staff attorney with a Las Vegas firm to an attorney with the Clark County Special Public Defender’s office. Thomas, her husband, Billy Logan, and their twin daughters have lived in the John S. Park Neighborhood since 2001.

Vilt, Kim

Kim Vilt was born July 14, 1975 and spent her childhood in Woodland Hills, California. She lived an outdoor life in rural San Fernando Valley and was the oldest of four children. Vilt graduated from CSUMB before serving with the Peace Corps in Bulgaria, where she met her husband (James J. Vilt). She moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 2000 into the John S. Park neighborhood. Her home in that neighborhood was built in 1946. Kim and James were married on September 8, 2002.

Walsh, Marty, 1957-

Marty Walsh was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1957 and grew up as the middle child of two sisters. They moved to Louisville, Kentucky when Walsh was 13. After graduating from high school, she moved to Cincinnati to attend college at the Art Academy of Cincinnati. Walsh visited almost every state in the United States before moving to Massachusetts, where she met and married her husband. In 1989, they sold their house and backpacked around Europe until they moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1998. The Walsh family bought a home in the John S.

Whitaker, William Dean, 1925-

William Dean Whitaker was born March 04, 1925 and raised in a suburb of Los Angeles, California. Dean, as he is known, had his youth end quickly when he joined the United States Air Force and became an aviation cadet once he turned 18 years old. The year was 1943 and World War II was raging. He became a member of the 398th Bomb Group and flew twenty missions before being captured by the Germans. He married his wife, Lucille, on May 15, 1946. They moved to Las Vegas, Nevada together in 1990.

Susan Baller was born May 3, 1942 and graduated from Las Vegas High School. She married her husband, Michael, in 1960 at the Temple Beth Sholom. Baller raised her children to be close in the Las Vegas Jewish community.

Mitchell A. Cobeaga was born in Lovelock, Nevada on December 7th, 1917. He is of Basque descent. He moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in Janruary of 1967. He was in the United States Air Force for 28 years and was the Vice President of the Nevada State Bank in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mora, Alber A.

Alber Mora is an immigrant from Cuba who arrived in the United States through Miami, Florida. Mora’s father became persecuted by the Castro government where he worked, when Alber’s older brother was called to mandatory military service though he had a medical exemption. Due to this reason, the mora family decided to leave Cuba in a balsa (raft) risking their lives as many Cubans did to escape the oppression at the time.
