Scope and Contents

The visual materials series (1927-1991) contains photographs and transparencies of places such as Las Vegas, Nevada; the Hoover Dam; Sedona, Arizona; Oberlin, Ohio; and other states Robert Woodruff traveled to during cross-country road trips. The material documents city scenes, community events, landscapes and animal life, national and state parks, and Woodruff's family. Cities and places around Nevada include Goodsprings, Tonopah, Rhyolite, Boulder City, Mount Charleston, Valley of Fire, and Death Valley. Events pictured include Henderson's Industrial Days, Helldorado, and the construction of the Hoover Dam. Materials are comprised of formats including 4x5 photographic prints; 35 mm, 120 mm, and 4x5 negative and positive transparencies; and 35 mm and 120 mm projection slides. The series also contains audio reels, a cassette tape, two early cameras, and a slide viewer.

McGonagill, Irma, 1890-1971

Irma McGonagill was born September 12, 1890. She moved to Tonopah, Nevada from Bishop, California with her father, Willie LeRoy McGonagill, and her siblings. Her father opened a general store to serve the mining camp. She lived in Tonopah until September 1907. She married Marcus Moschetto. Irma McGonagill Moschetto died July 1, 1971 in Seattle, Washington.

Abstract

The W. I. Booth and A. Allen Photograph Album of Goldfield, Nevada (approx. 1900-1910) contains forty-five black-and-white photographs taken by photographers W. I. Booth and A. Allen. The images depict the Goldfield, Nevada townsite; mines, miners, camps, and equipment; horses pulling freight and carriages across the desert; and topographical features of Goldfield and outlying areas. The photographs document the mining boom in the Goldfield area during the early 20th century.
