Description

A portion of a map produced by the Automobile Club of Southern California During the early 1920s. The map was of San Bernardino County, California; this portion of the map shows roads and railroads and communities in the Barstow, California, area. Of particular interest is the railroad linking Tonopah and Tide Water Railroad with the Santa Fe tracks at Ludlow, California, and the stops on the T&T between Ludlow and Riggs, north of Silver Lake, California. From the Nye County, Nevada Photograph Collection (PH-00221) -- Series VI. Tonopah, Nevada -- Subseries VI.D. Terrell Family. Solan Terrell, second from the right, back row, member of a United States Navy Diving Crew, early 1943, Sand Pedro, California. While a diver in the navy, Terrell served as photo double in the diving shots for Richard Arlen, the star of the movie, “Minesweeper”.

Description

The Goldfield Consolidated Mining Company under construction in Goldfield, Nevada. A Tonopah and Goldfield Railroad engine (seen on the railroad tracks) was converted into a crane to aid construction. The mining company was formed in 1907 and the mill was constructed late in the year and began processing ore in early 1908. The company was formed by George Nixon and George Wingfield. The mill continued running until 1918 when the company ceased operation.
