Description

From the Nye County, Nevada Photograph Collection (PH-00221) -- Series VII. Other areas in Nye County -- Subseries VII.F. Lowe Family. This photo was taken by a newspaper reporter from Los Angeles who came to Shoshone and wrote a spectacular article on the many people that Fairbanks had rescued from perishing in Death Valley, and other exploits.

Abstract

The Nita Longo Rieger Collection on the Desert Chapter of Gold Star Mothers consists of materials dated from 1947 until 1995 from the Desert Chapter of Gold Star Mothers Inc. located in Las Vegas, Nevada. It includes newspaper clippings about the group, a history of the chapter, photographs of meetings and member events, and programs from the dedication and rededication of a monument erected by the group.

Abstract

The collection contains materials produced by the National Exchange Club, Las Vegas chapter (1956-1994). Materials consist of photographs, newspaper clippings, and programs documenting award ceremonies, dinners, socials, community service works, and charitable events. The collection features primary and secondary sources of events such as the 1963 Little Britches Rodeo, a children's rodeo, and the 1971 youth benefit featuring Dean Martin and his feature film, Something Big. The collection also contains issues of the Las Vegas chapter newsletters Bullsheet (1975-1994) and its former incarnation The Exchangite (1963-1964).

The Mike Malone Papers (1979-1996) document the legislative activities of Mike Malone, a former Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Officer. Malone was a Nevada State Assemblyman from 1979 to 1985 and a State Senator from 1986 to 1990. The papers highlight the work of the committees Malone was on during his time in those offices, and include senate and assembly bills, campaign materials, newspaper clippings, letters from Malone to constituents, and minute books primarily from the 1983 and 1989 legislative sessions.

The Clark County, Nevada United States Bicentennial collection dates from approximately 1970 to 1976. The collection documents Nevada's participation in the 1976 Bicentennial celebration of the American Revolution, as well as celebrations from other states and countries in Europe. The collection is comprised of official reports from the U.S. Bicentennial committee, scrapbooks from the Clark County bicentennial committee, newspapers, and event programs from bicentennial celebrations around the country. The collection also contains a film of various American states' bicentennial celebrations.

Abstract

The Las Vegas, Nevada Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer/Questioning (LGBTQ) Collection documents the social and political activities of Las Vegas, Nevada's LGBTQ community from 1955 to 2020. The collection includes hundreds of newspaper articles about LGBTQ issues, ranging from AIDS to Nevada legislation. The collection also documents the presence of the LGBTQ community in Las Vegas, including material from gay bars, nightclubs, social clubs, advocacy and political organizations, entertainers, and student groups. Previously known as the Las Vegas Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Collection.
