Oral history interview with Shelley Bristol conducted by Barbara Tabach on November 10, 2015 for the Southern Nevada Jewish Heritage Project. Bristol recalls moving from California to Las Vegas, Nevada to attend UNLV, returning to California and then back to Las Vegas in the 1980s. She discusses people and places, the Culinary Union, her podcast, and her parents' involvement in B'nai Brith in Southern California, as well as her own activities in efforts to control the spread of HIV/AIDS through education and outreach.

Oral history interview with Chris Tonemah conducted by David Schwartz on June 08, 2015 for the Table Games Management Oral History Project. In this interview, Tonemah discusses her upbringing in Flagstaff, Arizona and attending dealing school in Las Vegas, Nevada. She remembers the switch to corporation ownership of Las Vegas casino properties, auditioning to deal at the MGM Grand, and the increase of women dealers during the 1980s. Tonemeh describes the MGM Grand fire and becoming a dealer at Caesars Palace Hotel and Casino. Lastly, Tonemeh discusses the opening of The Venetian, transitioning to the roll of pit boss, and changes she has experienced in card dealing.

Description

On July 3, 1975, Robin Wright interviewed Doctor Nancy Leveque (b. 1933 in Oak Park, Illinois) about her time living in Las Vegas, Nevada. The interview covers, among many wide-ranging topics, Leveque’s move to and away from Las Vegas, her career as a veterinarian, and the practice she and her then-husband built. Leveque also discusses how the city of Las Vegas has changed-environmentally and socially-, special interest groups and social activities, as well as natural phenomena. Throughout the course of the interview, Leveque provides anecdotes about prominent figures and old Las Vegas traditions, such as Helldorado.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Frances Faye on December 30, 1974 with an unknown interviewer for the UNLV University Libraries Oral History Collection.

In this interview, Frances Faye shares memories of performing as a cabaret singer in the 1930s. She talks about her entertaining career at several clubs in New York and various other locations including the Yacht Club, the Hickory House, Club Calet, and other venues. Faye recalls songs she wrote and performances across the United States including those in Chicago, Illinois; Boston, Massachusetts; Las Vegas, Nevada; and various locations within California. Faye reminisces with the interviewer about people they know in show business and briefly recounts a hip injury she sustained at the Riviera Hotel and Casino, causing her to stop performing for over nine years.
