Notes from the donor, Dennis McBride: This photograph was taken three days before the Center's April 6, 2013 grand opening. ... The building was named for gay Las Vegas businessman and philanthropist, Robert L. Forbuss [1948-2012], who donated a substantial amount of money toward the Center's construction. The University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Special Collections Department holds a photograph and manuscript collection from Forbuss [MS-00888], as well as an oral history interview [F849.L35 F657 2010].

The queer businesses advertised here as part of Q Central include Club Metro [across from Commercial Center at 1000 East Sahara Avenue]; Badlands Saloon; Spotlight Lounge; Onyx Theatre; the Rack fetish and sex shop; and Hawks Gym. Missing from advertisement is the Entourage gay bath house. "Q Central" was the Las Vegas counterpart to the Fruit Loop gay business enclave in Clark County at Paradise Road and East Naples Drive. Abstract

This collection is comprised of research files dating from approximately 1980 to 2021 created by Boulder City Nevadan, Dennis McBride, primarily in support of his book, Out of the Neon Closet: A History of Gay Las Vegas on the history of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, gay, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community in Southern Nevada. Materials in this collection also include ephemera and clippings documenting LGBTQ establishments and organizations in Las Vegas, biographies of individuals, and other issues pertinent to the LGBTQ community. This collection also includes some materials about the LGBTQ community and their issues in Northern Nevada. The collection represents McBride's overall efforts to document and preserve the history of the LGBTQ community in Nevada.
