Oral history interview with Lomie Heard conducted by Stephen M. Singer on February 09, 1980 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. Heard discusses education over the span of thirty years, and includes an overview on the building of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She also discusses Nellis Air Force Base, jet airplanes at Nellis, military families, and the Nevada Test Site.

Oral history interview with James Prather conducted by Bruce Finkelstein on March 09, 1981 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. In this interview, Prather discusses his childhood and personal history in Las Vegas, Nevada. Prather discusses his education, recreational activities he did as a child, and how Las Vegas has changed. Prather describes the swampy marshlands he used to play in near Las Vegas, viewing nuclear weapons tests and the nuclear fallout safety drills they would perform in school, and witnessing a plane crash in the North Las Vegas, Nevada area. Prather also discusses the arrival of Howard Hughes in Las Vegas and the effect he had on the city.

Oral history interview with Elbert Edwards conducted by Layne Covington on October 16, 1986 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. Edwards first talks about his family background before talking about what it was like to live in Panaca, Nevada. Edwards later talks about his wife’s and his political involvement, and his involvement in education. He then discusses Hoover (Boulder) Dam, his job as a registrar in the Selective Service, and the effects that the World War II years had on Las Vegas, Nevada.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Clifford J. Lawrence conducted by Stephany Herrera on April 02, 2001 for the Public School Principalship Oral History Project. In this interview, Lawrence reflects upon his career as a teacher and administrator with Nevada’s Clark County School District (CCSD) from the 1950s to the 1980s. He describes how he first started teaching at the Las Vegas Union School District, before it was named the Clark County School District. He discusses his experiences with school bussing and integration, his approach to school administration, and how his experiences as a teacher shaped his approach to administration. He discusses the importance of principals' community involvement, and their working relationship with assistant principals and the Board of Education.

Oral history interview with Doris Watson conducted by Claytee D. White on May 7, 2024 for the Game On! The Oral History of Las Vegas Sports project. In this interview, Watson discusses her childhood in Colorado and moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 2005. She recalls finding relief and success in both sports and education, excelling in math, science, basketball, and cross country. Watson discusses the importance of coaching, a skill that Watson still applies to her graduate students in the field of education at UNLV. With over 20 years of experience in sports pedagogy, Watson joined UNLV's Department of Educational Psychology, Leadership, and Higher Education in 2011. Digital audio available.
