Blanch Jackson Photograph Collection

Abstract

The Blanch Jackson Photograph Collection (approximately 1900-1941) contains black-and-white photographic prints and negatives from the Jackson family’s life in Tonopah, Nevada and their travels to mining sites in Nevada and Arizona. Blanch, her husband Clyde, her father-in-law Colonel David Howell Jackson, their two sons, and some acquaintances are pictured in the photographs.

Chris Giunchigliani Political Papers

Abstract

The Chris Giunchigliani Political Papers (1986-2019) document Giunchigliani's career as a member of the Nevada Assembly as well as her involvement as a Clark County Commissioner. The majority of the collection is a "newspaper and document archive" which consists of media articles and newspaper clippings collected by Giunchigliani's office that mention Giunchigliani throughout her political career. The collection also includes campaign materials such as mailers and photographs. Interviews Giunchigliani did with local news networks in Las Vegas, Nevada as well as televised campaign advertisements for the Clark County Commission election are represented in the collection. Other materials include legislative research files for bills on gypsum reclamation, development near Red Rock Canyon, education reform, and funding to build an NFL stadium in Las Vegas. The collection also includes a certificate of commendation from Senator Harry Reid and thank you cards from schoolchildren.

Gary Sternberg Papers

Abstract

The Gary Sternberg Papers are comprised of correspondence, publications, and videos documenting Sternberg's involvement with the Las Vegas Jewish community from 1983 to 2015. Organizations represented in the collection include Congregation Ner Tamid and the Holocaust Survivors Group of Southern Nevada. Also included are digital photographs of Sternberg in 2015 wearing his Caesars Palace dealer's uniform.

The Dennis and Roberta Sabbath papers are comprised of photographs, newspaper clippings, and ephemera created and collected by Dennis and Roberta Sabbath. Photographs and ephemera document the Sabbaths' personal and social lives and their involvement in the Jewish community in Las Vegas, Nevada. Newspaper clippings document the law career of Dennis Sabbath and his campaign for Nevada State Senate in 1986.

Alex Shoofey Papers

Abstract

The Alex Shoofey Papers are comprised of records spanning 1967 to 1972 that primarily pertain to financial operations and policies for the International Hotel and Casino-Las Vegas Hilton and the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. The collection includes daily profit and loss reports, interdepartmental correspondence, staffing and operational policies and procedures, production reports, and Shoofey's personal correspondence. Collection materials are representative of business and financial records from Shoofey's tenure as president of both the International and Flamingo hotels and casinos.

Gilbert Schwartz Papers

Abstract

The collection documents Gilbert Shwartz's early involvement with the Clark County Sheriff's Mounted Posse and the Elks Club in the early 1960s as well as the growth of his real estate company, Sahara Realty, from 1963 to 2008. The collection includes photographs and programs of the Clark County Sheriff's Mounted Posse Rodeo and programs for the Elks Club Helldorado Days Rodeo from the early 1960s. The collection also includes photographs of Schwartz and his home, slides of Sahara Realty/Realtors advertising around Las Vegas, and autographed team photographs of the Central Little League teams sponsored by Sahara Realty. Also included is a program for the National Association of Real Estate Brokers annual conference held in Las Vegas in 1974.

Cliff Segerblom Artwork

Abstract

The Cliff Segerblom Artwork contains four pieces of Segerblom's artwork. One painting of a desert home in Nelson, Nevada titled "Afternoon in Nelson" from 1940, one drawing of the USS Hornet from 1969, and two watercolor paintings of Lake Mead and Sunrise Mountain. The First Annual Southern Nevada Art Exhibit originally displayed "Afternoon in Nelson" in Las Vegas, Nevada between January 27 and 28 in 1940. The USS Hornet drawing was created November 1969, depicting a fighter aircraft aboard the USS Hornet at Apollo 12's splashdown. The two watercolors were donated to the University in 1962 by the Clark County Panhellenic Association.

Babe Pier Papers

Abstract

The Babe Pier Papers (approximately 1962-2012) include promotional materials, photographs, and audiovisual materials documenting the career of Las Vegas, Nevada-based comedian and impressionist, Babe Pier. Materials include Pier's show reels, fliers, posters, and photographs of Pier as a solo entertainer and as part of comedy groups such as the Vagabonds and the Happy Jesters. The collection includes recordings of Pier's appearances on television shows like the Mike Douglas Show and Milton Berle's comedy special as well as his comedic boxing charity fights. Materials also contain personal photographs of Pier and his family, including his wife, Cindy Raft, who managed an entertainment agency and was also an entertainer in Las Vegas.

The Artemus W. Ham Family Papers (1857-1970) contain postcards written by family members, newspaper clippings about the Ham family, and a Nevada Senate Concurrent Resolution memorializing Artemus W. Ham, Sr. Also included are genealogy notes, a commencement program from Michigan Law School, and membership cards of Artemus W. Ham, Sr.

Ruthe Deskin Papers

Abstract

The Ruthe Deskin Papers (1933-2004) document Deskin's career as a journalist and community activist in Nevada. The papers include Deskin's "Back and Forth" columns, newspaper articles about Deskin, awards and certificates, legal documents, correspondence, photographs, obituaries and memorials, convention programs from the Nevada Press Association, and biographical ephemera. The collection also contains certificates recognizing Deskin's work with Nevada youth from Greenspun Junior High School and Ruthe Deskin Elementary School, as well as the Boy Scouts of America and the Clark County Juvenile Court.
