Description

From the Nye County, Nevada Photograph Collection (PH-00221) -- Series III. Beatty, Nevada -- Subseries III.D. Crowell Family. The round machine near the base of the mill is a Lane Mill, which rotated and crushed the ore. All equipment and materials were moved to the building site using horses.

Ford, Katie, 1929-

Katie Ford was born April 13, 1929 in Ely, Nevada. Her family lived in multiple cities in the state before moving to Beatty, Nevada when Ford was two years old. She worked at her family’s gas station and hotel while she was a teenager. When Ford moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1945, she continued her career as a waitress.

The man wears an all black outfit complete with a hat whose brim provides a shadow that conceals his face.
