Description
Interview with Roosevelt Toston conducted by Claytee D. White on July 11, 2006. Toston grew up in Epps, Louisiana, and came to Las Vegas in the 1950s as a teenager. He describes his experience at Las Vegas High School and the first jobs he held at the Fremont Hotel and the Nevada Test Site. Toston honed his skills at Dana McKay's School of Business, Bell Telephone of Nevada, and in the military. A correspondence course in broadcasting led to jobs at television stations 3 and 8, and ultimately to a position with the Convention Authority in the area of tourism marketing.

Oral history interview with Hazel Hedges conducted by Irene Rostine on October 29, 1997 for the Women's Research Institute of Nevada (WRIN) Las Vegas Women Oral History Project. Hedges opens her interview by discussing her move to Las Vegas, Nevada from Kansas in 1952. She discusses what it was like to move across the country at that time and her search for employment. Hedges describes her work as a waitress at the Thunderbird Hotel and her true interest, real estate. Hedges talks about her real estate career which began in 1960, how that job allowed her to see Las Vegas grow, and her success in the industry. Lastly, Hedges discusses organizations at the time that assisted in the training of women realtors and her own community work.

Oral history interview with Rosa Lee Brewer, Maxine Westby, and Angelia Carter conducted by Claytee D. White on April 17, 2019 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Brewer discusses her early life in Birmingham, Alabama and moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1957. Brewer and Westby remember living in the Westside, J Street and Jackson Street businesses, and the issue of homelessness in that area. Later, Brewer, Westby, and Carter discuss the schools on the Westside and school integration. Lastly, Brewer, Westby, and Carter discuss changes in the Westside.

In this interview, Richard Steel discusses his life in the Marine Corps, his life as a boxer, moving to Las Vegas, Nevada, and working as a referee for boxing. Zakeisha Steele-Jones discusses how her father was an actor and campus police officer. Richard Steele then describes his most memorable fights that he refereed.
