A Paiute/Shoshone woman holding an infant in a cradleboard, and a young child standing in front of a possible karnee dwelling. A small wagon is visible in the foreground, and a cooking pot is on the fire. Note: this child and the wagon are also found in the Kiel-George collection (per Liz Warren). Possible location is Pahrump Valley, Nevada.

Description

Two Anglo women and three Indian women. The Indian women are seated on wicker chairs. The Indian woman at left turned away from the camera; second Indian woman in center, back row, hides her face with her arm. The photograph was possibly taken at Manse Ranch in Pahrump, Nevada. A Post-it note identifies the Indian woman in front, right, as "probably Maude Yount." This is a different woman from the Maude Yount identified on photo Image ID:0096 0020.

Description

Three men in Pahrump Valley. Note saying, "Same photo in Yount Collection identifies man on left as Dr. Blackburn and Uncle Bill Morris on right." Chief Tecopa is in the center. Chief Tecopa, leader of the Souther Paiute tribe, was born in Pahrump in 1815 and died in Pahnrump between 1904-1906. He is interred in the Chief Tecopa Cemetery, located on East Street next to the library Pahrump, Nevada.

Description

The railroad yards for the San Pedro, Los Angeles, and Salt Lake Railroad, and is now the Union Pacific Railroad. The roundhouse is on the left, and the machine shop is on the right. Photo identification was provided by Donald S. Palmer. The Union Pacific Depot was built in 1906, and by 1920 has five through passenger trains running daily to Los Angeles, California. In the late 1920s, the building where the western part of the Pioneer Club is today was operated as a smokehouse.

Description

The Adcock & Ronnow Department Store about 1925. The store building was located on the south side of Fremont Street between First & Second Streets. On the light pole is the sign B.P.O.E. 1948. designating the lodge rooms of the Las Vegas Elks, organized in Las Vegas on June 7, 1923, with the late Harley A. Harmon as the first Exalted Ruler. The second floor of the building was occupied by the Elks for many years. Physical object has an insert containing additional biographical information.
