Al. vs Sandoval was the court case which led in part to overturning Nevada's constitutional ban on same-sex marriage. On April 10, 2012 the Lambda Legal Defense Fund filed a lawsuit on behalf of eight Nevada same-sex couples; the rally depicted in these photographs was called at the Center to celebrate the filing. Mary Baranovich and Beverly Sevcik were one of the eight couples suing the state of Nevada, and the couple after whom the case was named. 8th Annual "Hell on Heels" event, 1989 May 06

Established in 1982 in Las Vegas, the queer Satyricon Motorcycle Club hosted an annual run they called Hell on Heels, which was attended by queer motorcycle clubs from throughout the Western United States. Celebrated over two or three days, the run included a fundraising stage production featuring musical numbers and lip-synched drag performances by club members. This video records the 8th annual Hell on Heels stage production, which includes Las Vegas lesbian activist and Satyricons member Lisa Hernandez--here in top hat and tails. This video records the 9th annual Hell on Heels stage production, titled, Ankles Aweigh, which includes Las Vegas lesbian activist and Satyricons member Lisa Hernandez. Notes from the donor, Dennis McBride: This series of photographs of the Gipsy nightclub arson fire was downloaded from the Internet on August 20, 2018 and includes Guava Soleil's captions. Efforts to reach Soleil were unsuccessful. Soleil's caption for image no. 4647 reads, "I was just starting out and background girls were hard to find ...." From the Dennis McBride Photograph Collection (PH-00263) -- LGBTQ+ events and organizations in Las Vegas, Nevada -- Digital images file. Notes from the donor, Dennis McBride: Krave nightclub opened on November 13, 2004 inside the Desert Passage shopping area of the Aladdin Hotel and Casino, and remained at this location after Desert Passage became the Miracle Mile Shops. In July 2012 Krave announced its move from the Miracle Mile Shops to the empty motion picture theater in the Neonopolis shopping mall downtown on Fremont Street and a name change to Krave Massive. The nightclub held its grand opening in Neonopolis on June 16, 2013, only to close within two months. Krave moved a third time into the former Club Utopia at 3765 Las Vegas Boulevard South. Krave opened here on November 1, 2013, then closed permanently on July 27, 2014. ... This photo was taken of the Krave nightclub sign in Neonopolis still in place and lit despite the nightclub having been gone from the site for two years.

Jahna Steele, aka Jahna Reis [d. January 24, 2008], was a renowned transgender performer in Las Vegas whose reputation became international through the 1990s and 2000s. Steele hosted The World's Most Beautiful Transsexual Contest at the Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas in 2004. Nevada Supreme Court seat E: second candidate debate, 2004 August 17

Scope and Contents

This video records the second debate among the primary election candidates for Nevada Supreme Court seat E in 2004. This race was notorious as one of the most expensive in Nevada's election history to that date, and became known derisively as the "$1 Million Race." The candidates here are former Nevada State Senator Lori Lipman Brown; former chairman of the Nevada Republican Party, John Mason; then Nevada Eighth Judicial District Court judge, Ron Parraguirre; and Douglas "Doug" Smith, then a Clark County Justice of the Peace. Parraguirre won this primary election on September 7, 2004, and went on to win the general, as well, on November 2, 2004.
