The black and white view of Howard Hughes in his Lockheed 14 aircraft at Floyd Bennett Field in New York. Text printed on accompanying paper strip: "Hughes takes off on flight to Paris. Floyd Bennett Field, New York City-- Howard Hughes, multi-millionaire speed flyer, pictured in the nose of his Hughes Lockheed "Flying Laboratory" as Hughes and his picked crew of four prepared for the take-off to Paris and probably around the world on July 10th. A few minutes after this picture was taken, the giant ship lifted from the field to follow the trail blazed by Chrales A. Lindbergh. Credit Line (ACME) 7/10/38."

Typed onto a piece of paper attached to the image: "New York Acclaims World Fliers, New York City --- Looking up Broadway during the ticker-tape reception accorded Howard Hughes and his four companions in recognition of their Round-The-World record-smashing flight. The dense crowd which lined both sides of the through fare has closed in behind the parade, while further ahead fresh showers of torn paper flutter down on the motorcade. 7(3/4)-15-38. Description
A front view of HK-1, Hughes Flying Boat, the world's largest plane, which successfully completed its first flight, shown in the photo. The eight 3,000 horsepower engine lifted the craft from the waters of Los Angeles Harbor with Hughes at the controls. The huge wings, with a span of 320 feet carried the aircraft for one mile at a 100-mile per hour speed before Hughes put it back on the water.
