The black and white view of Howard Hughes exiting his Lockheed 14 aircraft after performing the final landing on the Round the World flight at Floyd Bennett Airport, New York. Description printed on photograph's accompanying sheet of paper: "World fliers greeted on arrival. Floyd Bennett Airport--- Minutes after he and his companions set their plane down here, completing a dramatic dash around the world, Howard Hughes, wearing the same battered hat, his face covered by a heavy stubble, stepped from the plane, to be greeted by Mayor La Guardia, in the photo are, left to right: Ed Lund, flight mechanic, Howard Hughes, Thomas Thurlow, navigator; Harry P. Probably thinking of the "men who designed and perfected to its present remarkable state of efficiency, the modern American flying machine and equipment." Typed onto a piece of paper attached onto the image: "Police in readiness for arrival of Hughes' plane, Floyd Bennett Airport, N.Y. -- Police lined up in front of a plane at Floyd Bennett Airport, as last-minute preparations were made for the arrival of Howard Hughes and his companions, who were winging over North Central America on the last leg of their epochal Round-The-World flight. By noon a crowd of 6,000 persons had assembled and countless others choked all roads leading to the field as the fliers drew nearer to their goal. Credit Line (ACME) 7/14/38."
