A rear view of Howard Hughes Grover Whalen, and Al Lodwick riding in the back of an automobile in a parade dedicated to Hughes for his completion of the round-the-world flight. Typed onto a piece of paper attached to the image: "Rear view of car in which Howard Hughes, Al. Lodwick, and Grover Whalen ride up Broadway after Howard Hughes flight Around the World. July 1938."

Description given with photo: "Hughes Holds Press Conference After Arrival, New York -- Mustached Howard Hughes stands alone as he is interviewed at Laguardia Airport late Sept. 11 after his arrival from Kansas City only recently recovered from injuries sustained when a plane he was testing crashed, Hughes flew to New York to confer with attorneys regarding the banning of a film he produced. Description given with photo: "Just A Few Words Please, New York -- Howard Hughes says a few words for the radio audience just after his arrival here late last night, Sept. 11th, from Kansas City. The multi-millionaire movie producer and flier flew the distance from Kansas City to New York in four hours and 38 minutes, piloting his converted B-23 army transport. Creditline (ACME) 9/12/46."

Description printed on photograph's accompanying sheet of paper: "Gen. view parade: As globe fliers braved Broadway blizzard, New York. Although they didn't encounter a single snowflake on their roaring dash across Siberia, Howard Hughes and his four-man crew met a regular blizzard (of Broadway ticker tape) today as New York paid them homage as only New York know how. This is a view of the scene as the triumphal procession proceeded from the Battery to City Call. In the car are (left to right) Grover Whalen, President of the New York World's Fair, Howard Hughes and Al Lodwick, his press representative. (w) 7-15-38.30."

Typed onto a piece of paper attached to the image: "New York Acclaims World Fliers, New York City --- Looking up Broadway during the ticker-tape reception accorded Howard Hughes and his four companions in recognition of their Round-The-World record-smashing flight. The dense crowd which lined both sides of the through fare has closed in behind the parade, while further ahead fresh showers of torn paper flutter down on the motorcade. 7(3/4)-15-38.
