Abstract

The Arlene Mathews Smith Papers are comprised of materials pertaining to the area around Panaca, Nevada, dating from 1917 to 1978, with a bulk of the items from the 1920s. The papers were collected while she lived in Panaca and consist of records and booklets from the 4-H Boys and Girls Club, two copies of the "Lincoln Lantern" dated 1927, and memorabilia.

The Marshall L. Wright Photograph Collection consists of black-and-white photographic prints and negatives from approximately 1950 to 1960. Wright was an executive at the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the photographs depict him with friends and business associates, and at events promoting the hotel. Also included are photographs of the Riviera Hotel and Las Vegas Strip.

Rojas, Mirtha

Mirtha Rojas is originally from La Habana, Cuba and came to the United States to join his brother that had lived in Miami since Mirtha was a child. Mirtha describes her childhood as many happy moments where she learned and enjoyed musical instruments from a young age, and became a music teacher in Cuba as well. Mirtha states after her parents had died, she faced some difficult times and her brother invited her to come to Miami where she arrived in 2009 along with her nine year old daughter.

The Gwendolyn Woolley Photographs contain photographs from Las Vegas, Nevada from approximately 1934 to 1953. The photographs primarily depict students at the Junior Prom at Las Vegas High School in 1953. The photographs also depict members of the Ladies Society of Brotherhood of Firemen and Locomotive Engineers at the first Helldorado Parade in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Alice Lake-Rockwell and Earl Rockwell Photographs depict the Las Vegas, Nevada area from approximately 1880 to 1962. The photographs primarily depict the Lake-Rockwell Family in Las Vegas, including Earl Rockwell with a local baseball team, the Las Vegas Volunteer Fire Department, and the Las Vegas Police. Other photographs include the Hoover (Boulder) Dam construction site and views of the completed dam. The photographs also portray family members from the Rockwell Family.

Abstract

The Hughes Aircraft Company Weapons System Publications (approximately 1965-2011) contain brochures, booklets, photographs, and illustrations of the AWG-9/Phoenix Air Superiority Weapon Control System developed by Hughes Aircraft Company Aerospace Systems Division based in California. The collection contains photographs of various aircraft, as well as a Supersonic Naval Ordnance Research Track (SNORT) test at the Naval Ordnance Test Station near China Lake, California.

Foley, Roger Drummond, 1917-1996

Roger Drummond Foley (1917-1996) was Nevada’s 23rd Attorney General and was nominated to the federal United States District Court, District of Nevada by President John F. Kennedy in 1962. A few of Foley’s famous cases during his tenure included the radiation exposure of the “Baneberry” Nuclear Test and the protection of the Ash Meadows Desert Pupfish in United States v. Francis Leo Cappaert.
