Abstract

Oral history interview with Linda Rivera conducted by Layne Karafantis on October 02, 2009 for the Women's Research Institute of Nevada (WRIN) Las Vegas Women Oral History Project. Rivera opens her interview by discussing her youth as a Latina in Arizona in the 1960s. Rivera then talks about schooling conditions and discrimination. She describes her first job at the Solomon Bill School District and, while there were many Hispanic students, there were not many Hispanic teachers or student leaders. Rivera then describes moving to Nevada in 1986 and searching for Hispanic culture in Las Vegas, Nevada. Rivera discusses the formation of the Hispanic Roundtable, an organization that develops Hispanic leadership in Nevada. She also talks her work to make the Clark County School District more accessible to working families and her awards and recognition within the Latinx community.

Nancy Wier Papers on Rock Art in Southern Nevada

Abstract

The Nancy Wier Papers on Rock Art in Southern Nevada (approximately 1930-2003) contain photographs, notes, research, and publications focused on rock art (rock writing) found in the Southern Nevada Region. Wier founded the Southern Nevada Rock Art Enthusiasts (SNRAE) in 1992, and the photograph albums document trips across Nevada, Southern California, Utah, and Arizona. The photograph albums are grouped by site location, and the description was taken directly from Wier's albums. The majority of the collection documents rock writings in Southern Nevada.

Abstract

The Oscar B. Goodman Papers (1888-2008) are comprised of records produced by Oscar Goodman from his time as a criminal defense lawyer in Las Vegas, Nevada. This includes working, legal, and evidence files from his own individual practice and his time as a partner at various law firms. The collection contains case files, wiretap tapes and transcripts, administrative files, and files relating to the legal affairs of his wife, Carolyn Goodman. The collection also contains the working files of David Chesnoff, lawyer and Goodman's former legal partner.
