Oral history interview with Joey Trujillo conducted by David G. Schwartz on October 08, 2008 for the Remembering Jay Sarno Oral History Project. In this interview, Trujillo discusses his personal experience with Jay Sarno as his barber at Caesars Palace Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. He recalls gambling with Sarno and tells anecdotes of their friendship. Lastly, Trujillo discusses the death of Sarno in 1984.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Ernest Oon conducted by Cecilia Winchell, Stefani Evans, and Jerwin Tiu on February 16, 2023 for the Reflections: the Las Vegas Asian American and Pacific Islander Oral History Project. In this interview, Oon recalls his childhood in Singapore, where his father worked on the Health and Sports Council for the Singaporean Government and his mother worked as a television assistant producer. Growing up, Oon recalls being very active, participating in everything from soccer to Tae Kwon Do. In an effort to continue his education without being being interrupted by Singapore's civil service program, Oon applied to college in the United States and ended up attending California State University. Although he was on the medicine track in Singapore, he switched to finance. After a series of jobs within credit banking, he is now a chief credit officer for Bank of Nevada. Throughout the interview, Oon reflects on the changes in his life living in different places, the street food from Singapore, and his unique tennis game.

In this interview, Zunino tells of his employment with G.C. Wallace Engineering and JMA architects before founding his own landscape architecture firm in 1989. Additionally, Zunino discusses the evolution of landscape architecture in casino design.

Pierre Bezard shares stories of his time as a stage director of Vive Les Girls! and Casino de Paris at the Dunes Hotel. He discusses working with producer Frederic Apcar and his time directing the Lido de Paris cabaret show and Ballet de Roland Petit in France.

Pierre's wife, Nadine Bezard, and friend, Ginnie Palone Mollner, also participate in the interview.

Nathalie Martinez, one of the original members of the Latinx Voices project team, dicusses her personal history and the history of her parents who immigrated to the United States from Colombia and El Salvador. She shares her educational background and experiences working as an interviewer for the Latinx Voices project before its culmination and her graduation in 2021. Nathalie also talks about her work on the project's podcast and her work linguistically translating the interviews from Spanish to English.

Oral history interview with Dayvid Figler conducted by Claytee White on July 28, 2010 for the Voices of the Historic John S. Park Neighborhood Oral History Project. In this interview, Figler discusses moving with his family to Las Vegas, Nevada as a toddler and growing up in an apartment near the Las Vegas Convention Center. After graduating law school in Arizona, Figler returned to Las Vegas and, in 2000, purchased a home in the John S. Park neighborhood. Figler talks about the ownership history of the house, neighbors including casino owner Bob Stupak and Nevada senator Bob Coffin, and the growth and development of the John S. Park Historic District.
