Oral history interview with Arne Rosencrantz conducted by Barbara Tabach on February 18, 2015 for the Southern Nevada Jewish Heritage Project. Rosencrantz discusses his family’s immigration story, him moving to Las Vegas, Nevada, and growing up within the Jewish community. Rosencrantz also discusses his involvement in the Las Vegas Jewish community over the decades.
This series is comprised of CDs created by Temple Beth Sholom (Las Vegas, Nevada) from 1999 to 2011. Contents include photographs of temple events and activities and files created by temple administration in the course of activities such as creating the temple bulletin; managing personnel, membership, and budgets; and planning events. Oral history interview with Mike and Sallie Gordon conducted by Adrianne Massa on March 02, 1977 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. In this interview Mike and Sallie Gordon talk about being some of the first Jewish people to come to Las Vegas, Nevada when they moved to the city on January 26, 1932. They also discuss being involved members of a group of Jewish pioneers and being founding members of the Temple Beth Sholom, Las Vegas's first synagogue. They also discuss the growth and changes of the valley between the early 1930s and mid-1970s.
The "Other community involvement records and personal papers" series mainly consists of materials created and collected by Miriam "Mimi" Katz from the 1940s to 2015 that document her involvement in the Las Vegas, Nevada community. This series contains a substantial amount of political campaign materials documenting Katz's volunteer work for state and federal candidates such as John Kerry, Dina Titus, Bill Clinton, and Al Gore. Katz was involved in the League of Women Voters and Temple Beth Sholom's Meet the Candidates nights, which is reflected in records and planning documents in this series. Records of other special events that Katz helped to plan for Temple Beth Sholom and its Active Adults program, as well as the Jewish Community Center of Southern Nevada, are also included in this series. The history of the local Jewish community is described in compositions by George Katz and Jerome D. Countess. Finally, this series includes some personal items documenting Katz's life, including photographs, certificates of recognition, and her obituary and memorial service program.
