Taylor Construction Company Collection

Abstract

The Taylor Construction Company Collection (1954-1973) consists primarily of publicly distributed information and provides a glimpse of some of the hotels, housing, public buildings, and remodeling projects handled by the company. It contains two booklets on the construction projects of the company from 1954 to 1972. It also includes Las Vegas International Hotel's projected revenues from 1969 to 1973, a newspaper article on Taylor Construction Company projects in Florida, and an invitation to the groundbreaking ceremony for the MGM Grand Hotel.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Bill and Jim Mason conducted by Stefani Evans on March 15, 2017 for the Building Las Vegas Oral History Project and the Southern Nevada Jewish Heritage Project. In this interview, Bill and Jim discuss their upbringing in Las Vegas, Nevada. They talk about their Jewish heritage, attending Kit Carson Sixth Grade Center, and their participation at Temple Beth Sholom. Bill and Jim recall working for their father’s construction company, Taylor Construction, some of the construction projects they were involved in, and taking ownership of the company in 1999. Lastly, Bill and Jim describe the growth of the Jewish community in Las Vegas.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Stuart Mason conducted by Claytee White on November 09, 2006 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. Mason discusses his company, Taylor Construction, and gives an overview of the hotels the company has built and background information about them. He then describes moving to Las Vegas, Nevada to build Caesars Palace in 1964 and how the Civil Rights Movement impacted the construction scene. He then talks about old and new building projects, and the differences between being his own boss and working for someone else.
