Description

On March 3, 1978, Monica Lehman interviewed Clark Crocker (born 1920 in Westfield, Massachusetts) about his experiences while living in Nevada. Crocker first talks about his family and educational background before describing his experiences from going to school in both California and Massachusetts. Crocker then describes what he knows about the building of Hoover Dam and later talks about his career as a teacher and school principal. The two also discuss Crocker’s hobbies and volunteer work, including that for the fire department in Pahrump, and they later discuss Crocker’s experiences as both a frogman and navigator for the United States Navy during World War II. The interview concludes with some of Crocker’s thoughts and philosophies on how curriculum should be structured in schools.

Abstract

The John C. Olsen Photograph Collection, approximately 1950 to 1969, consists of black-and-white photographic prints and negatives. Images depict scenes from the annual Helldorado Celebration in Las Vegas, Nevada, the Shriners’ Parade in downtown Las Vegas, various hotels along the Las Vegas Strip, the Last Frontier Village at the Last Frontier Hotel, Las Vegas, natural landscapes at Mount Charleston and Rhyolite, Nevada, Hoover Dam and Lake Mead, Twin Lakes, and petroglyphs in Valley of Fire Nevada State Park.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Dan McKenzie conducted by Connie Degerness on February 12, 1975 for the Boulder City Library Oral History Project. In this very short interview, McKenzie explains why he came to Nevada from Arizona, finding work on the Hoover Dam construction in April 1930, and then lists all of his subsequent work in maintenance and mechanics during the dam's construction.

On February 12, 1975, collector Marilyn Swanson interviewed housewife, Mrs. Helen H. Holmes (born Helen Hanson on February 24th, 1906, in Harrison, Nebraska) in her home in Boulder City, Nevada. This interview covers the social, economic, and environmental changes that occurred in Boulder City from 1931 to 1975. Mrs. Holmes also discusses home and family life in Nevada.
