Davis, Glenn A. (Glenn Augustus), 1894-1980

American photographer Glenn Augustus Davis was born March 22, 1894 in Portland, Oregon. He attended school in Oregon and Washington prior to working in the lumber camps and saw mills of Washington and British Columbia. He served in the US Army from 1915 to 1920. He was a member of the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) on the Western Front in France during World War I. In the years following the war, Davis returned to the US and worked as a cook, a cotton grower, and a seaman before following his passion for photography.

Oral history interview with Edna Jackson-Ferguson conducted by herself on April 15, 1975 for the UNLV University Libraries Oral History Collection. Jackson-Ferguson provides many details about living in the camp with workers of the Hoover Dam and the tasks required of those workers in building the dam. Jackson-Ferguson mentions some of the other job positions her husband held and their pride in being a part of the Hoover Dam’s construction.

Abstract

The Elton and Madelaine Garrett Photograph and Architectural Drawing Collection contains photographic prints and architectural drawings of Boulder (Hoover) Dam; Las Vegas, Nevada; Boulder City, Nevada; and other locations in the American Southwest from approximately 1927 to 1990. The photographs primarily depict Hoover Dam's construction and areas around Hoover Dam, Las Vegas, and Boulder City during the 1930s and 1940s. The bulk of the architectural drawings and maps are projects and diagrams related to the planning and development of Boulder City, Nevada between 1943 and 1985.

Brown, Harry A., 1912-

Harry A. Brown was born in Independence, Missouri in 1912. Brown moved to Las Vegas, Nevada with his wife in 1934 during the Great Depression in order to start working on the construction of Boulder Dam. Brown continued his occupation as a carpenter throughout the years while living in Las Vegas and resided in several properties with his family in Las Vegas and North Las Vegas.
